There are times when you have to pack up, no matter who is doing the packing and transporting of your goods, you should have the basic knowledge of the things that you need to avoid while packing and the things you need to pack up.

It is important that you understand which items you can pack or cannot pack. Following is the list of items that you need to avoid while packing –

• Perishable Items – If you are a long distance mover, then you should dispose all of the perishable items such as dairy products, meats and eggs. If you are moving plants, then make sure that they are properly stored and packed, or else find a new home for your plants.
• Valuable Items - Instead of packing valuable items in boxes and sending them away in a moving van, you should take them with you. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it has a high price value; rather these are the “can’t live without” items. So think twice before packing following items –
  • Jewelry
  • Personal files or folders, video tapes, movies, address book, check book, safety box keys and letters.
  • Computer software and Back-up disks.
  • Medicines.
  • Collections like coins, stamps, arts, etc.
  • Financial statements and tax records.
• Hazardous or Dangerous Goods – Any material which is explosive, flammable or corrosive is illegal to move and dangerous. Since, a dangerous material is capable of producing hazardous physical effects such as a convulsion, cancer, organ damage, burns, etc. Following are the list of items that should not be packed –
  • Kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid, lamp oil
  • Acids, Charcoal
  • Chemistry sets, pool chemicals
  • Pesticides, fertilizers, weed killers
  • Liquid bleach, cleaning fluids, ammonia
  • Aerosols, propane tanks
  • Ammunitions, loaded weapons
  • Paint thinner, nail polish remover, paints, nail polish
  • Matches, batteries, fireworks

• Other Items
  • Clothes that you won’t need and don’t fit.
  • Any items which are broken and cannot be repaired.
  • Items which are banned from transportation.
  • Goods those are not required in your new house.
