Structure Relocation

Process of moving a structure from one place to another is called as structure relocation. Structure can be moved by two ways; disassembling and reassembling. In structure relocation, building may be pushed on provisional dollies or rails, in case the transportation distance is short. If distance is long then flatbed trucks are used. These moves are complex and need removal of protruding equipments of the building, such as chimney, overhead cables and trees. Buildings can be removed due to several reasons such as landscape, urban development or for the purpose of preserving historical monument.
In 19th century historical church in Salem, Massachusetts was moved on hydraulically powered dollies.

Relocation of Towers-
In the past, it was common that most of the radio towers dismantled and were rebuilt at another site. In several cases they were built just a few meters away from their original location, but in other cases they were built away from their original location. Sometimes a tower was dismantled and then used for the upper parts of a new radio tower. This kind of relocation was done with 2 towers named Sender Donebach in the year 1982 and with the stilted tower of Transmitter Ismaning in the year 1934. Few radio towers in East Germany were removed by Soviet occupants and built in Soviet Union; the most famous example was Goliath transmitter, subsequent to World War II. Common example of structure relocation is electricity poles; they are dismantled and rebuilt at a new site.
Financing Building Relocation-
Minor projects like moving of homes to new sites are financed by banks. Finance is a main dilemma faced by managers as the house needs to be paid in advance before leaving its existing location, but the lender of the project cannot take safety over the house until it is complete. This generates short term cash flow problem that unhinges many projects.
Records-
BREN Tower is the tallest structure ever located.
At Felsberg-Berus 280 meter tall radio mast was relocated without dismantling in the year 1959.
